DISTRICT PROFILE
Kadapa District having located at the heart of Rayalaseema region is a cafeteria for various
horticulture crops.Wide range of fruit crops like Mango, Banana, Acid Lime, Sweet
Orange, Papaya and Sapota and vegetables like Tomato, Brinjal, Onion, Bhendi,Green
Chillies and gourds are grown on commercial scale in addition to the spices like
Coriander,Chillies and Turmeric. Betelvine is also cultivated on large extent and known
for its exotic quality.K.P.Onion is another important crop cultivated in the district with
100%export potentiality. Pomegranate and Ber are another important nontraditional fruit
crops catching attention of the farmers for commercial cultivation in recent days inaddition to medicinal crops like Amla.
Predominant mandals of Horticulture Crops grown in the District
Banana,Mango,Acidlime,SweetOrange,Papaya are major fruit crops.
· Banana :-Rly.kodur,Rajampet,Pulivendula,lingala and Obulavaripalli mandals.
· Mango:Rly.Kodur,T.Sundupalli,Penagalur,Obulavaripalli, L.R.Palli,Chitvel and Chinnamandem.
· Acidlime:-Penagalur,Pendlimarri,Chakrayapet and Rajampet
· Sweet Orange:-Simhadripuram, Lingala,Atlur, Pulivendla and Thonduru.
· Papaya:Rly.Kodur,C.K.Dinne,Obulavaripalli,Sidhout, Chitvel,Pullampet and Duvvur.
· Coriander:Yerraguntla,Vemula,Kamalapuram,Vempalli,Lingala, Simhadripuram Thonduru
and Mylavaram.
· Turmeric:- Mydukur,Duvvur and Khajipet.
· Betelvine:- Obulavaripalli,Chennuru, Khajipet and C.K.Dinne.
· K.P.Onion:-K.P.Onoin is 100% export oriented crop and cultivated in Duvvur and
Mydukur mandals.
· Tuberose:-Rajampet,Chitvel and Railway kodur.
· Crysanthemum:-Pendlimarri.
· Jasmine:-Pendlimarri,Chinnamandem.
Horticulture Research Stations:
Regional Agricultural Researh Station,Anantharajupat, Railway Kodur
Mandatory crops: Papaya,Sapota,Guava and minor fruit plants like Jack, Jamun, Amla,
Koranda, Phalsa. Turmeric, Tamarind and Betelvine are also included .
Activities:
· Research for crop improvement and agro techniques.
· Plant protection trials and Extension activities.
· Organisation of trainings to the extension staff and farmers.
Horticulutural Nurseries:
Model Nursery (Horticulture Farm), Rly.Kodur.
Introduction: Horticultural Farm, Rly.Kodur was started as New Root Stock Trail plot in adjoin
to the Fruit Research Station, Anantharajupet in 1951 to take up citrus root stock trails with
respect to production and role of root stock. At the time of handing over of the Agricultural
Research Station to the Agriculture University, it was handed over to the Department of Agriculture,
A.P. and utilized for production of quality plant production to the farmers. The farm was later on
handed over to the department of Horticulture at the time of formation of separate
Horticulture department in 1982.
Horticulture Farm is identified for development as a Model Nursery under
State Horticulture Mission during 2005-06 with financial allocation of RS.18.00 lakhs for
infrastructure development.

· Good quality plant material is produced and supplied to the progressive farmers .
· All varieties of Mango,Sapota,Guava,Jackfruit are being produced.
· Sweet Orange budlings on Rangapur lime root stock are being produced.
Private Nurseries: Nearly 62 private nurseries are established at Rly.Kodur and known for
production of Sweat Orange buddlings and other horticultural crops plant material like Mango,
Sapota, Acidlime, and also few ornamental species.61 nurseries are also established by the farmers
in Simhadripuram and Lingala mandals and producing good quality sweet orange budlings.
Around 80,00,000 to 100,00,000 lakhs Sweet orange budlings are produced in Kadapa District
every year and supply to the farmers of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharastra and Tamilnadu.
